3.1 Opening the PC Lab.

  1. Unlock the lab.

    The lab proctor should unlock and unalarm the room. See the Alarm/Door Key Procedures section of this manual.

  2. Check the machines.

    When you arrive in the morning, all the machines should already be turned on. Turn all the monitors on, and check that the desktop looks correct. Email systems reporting any machines that won't turn on, or any machines that don't either look or sound right. Be sure to give the machine name.

  3. Check the printers.

    Print a page to the laser printer. If printer doesn't work, see the UNIX Printers section of the UNIX Lab part of this document.

  4. Clean up the Lab.

    Throw away any trash, unclaimed printouts, etc. Push in chairs.

3.2 Closing the PC Lab

  1. Announce Closing.

    Fifteen minutes before closing time, announce the lab will be closing soon.

    At closing time announce the lab is closed. Everyone must leave.

  2. Clean Up The Printers.

    Put any unclaimed printouts in blue recycle bin.

  3. Clean Up The Lab.

    Throw away any trash, unclaimed printouts, etc. Push in chairs.

  4. Lock the door.

    Alarm the door. See the Alarm/Door Key Procedures section of this document for details.

NOTE: There has been some confusion in the past as to where paper is located and how to acquire it. Paper is kept in 102, on the metal rack by the proctor desk. If that supply is running low, send mail to lab-admin@ccs.neu.edu. As a last resort, paper can be obtained from Systems in 310.
